Thom Faulders

Thom Faulders, founder of Thom Faulders Architecture, creates client-based projects at a wide array of building scales, exploratory architectural proposals and speculative exhibitions that engage space, perception, and context. The office situates the practice of architecture within a broader context of performative research and material investigations that negotiate dynamic relationships between users and environments. This is an active and opportunistic architecture, articulated through and defined by spontaneous, constantly changing relationships: between functionality and subjective engagement, between optical and haptic conditions, between a building and its surroundings.

He will speak about the development of an atmospheric skin called Airspace Tokyo.
Faulders’ work has been exhibited at La Triennale di Milano in Italy, the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Lisbon International Biennale, and the Kunstlerhaus in Vienna, and is included in the Permanent Architecture and Design Collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He has received awards from the Bienal Miami + Beach, and the American Institute of Architects, the Architectural League of New York, and the Society of Environmental Graphic Design, and he is a recipient of the SFMOMA Experimental Design Award. In combination with practice, Faulders is an Associate Professor in Architecture at CCA in San Francisco.
