Ben Trautman

Next Wednesday, April 11th, 2007 mechanical artist Ben Trautman will show video of his sculpture and talk about his process. He received a Master's in Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1994 and since then has been making sculpture and furniture.

"I am an artist who works with architecture, sculpture, structure and mechanics. I try to use cheap materials, recyclable materials, and treat them with respect and economy, investing labor in them, making lightweight structures that minimize waste. I often make things without drawings. I start with a hinge and add on, looking for structural solutions, mechanical solutions, fixing problems through accumulation rather than removal. Many pieces start out like a series of connected bones and they grow skins and volumes, reaching toward some sort of architectural or sculptural form. But since they move, they have to work and that can often force the piece in a new direction."

For future Linden Tree Presentations we ask that you RSVP due to increased interest and limited seating. We will be limiting attendance to the first forty respondents. For those attending for the first time, Linden Tree is held on the second Wednesday of the month at our office. Doors open at 7pm and the presentation begins at 8pm. We ask that everyone pitch in $20 to cover gourmet pizza and wine.
